MAKING THE GRADE: mini-editorials

From APs in clown wigs to Homecoming festivities, we grade recent campus events

APs APPEASE

From glitter headbands and spandex to clown wigs and tie-dye, the assistant principals Brandon Evans and Chris Simpson showed just how crazy and fun they could be during football season.  Every Thursday spirit day and throughout Homecoming Spirit Week, these APs went above and beyond with their wacky and humorous outfits. Students have even taken pictures with the APs which have become popular retweets on Twitter. All in all, that is definitely one event we hope becomes an annual tradition. Grade: A

NO RESTROOM FOR THE WICKED

Lunchtime. Your 30 minutes to communicate with friends, eat and use the restroom without fear of being tardy. Well – maybe not the restroom part anymore. Since the beginning of the year, the restrooms near the cafeteria have been locked, preventing students from using them. Instead, students must use the bathrooms in the athletic building, across the pavilion. It’s understandable that the bathrooms closer to the café are locked due to the amounts of graffiti, trash and skipping students, but it’s a real inconvenience. That may sound dramatic considering it’s not much further of a walk, but the smell of the bathrooms in the athletic building is absolutely terrible. Also, the graffiti and trash isn’t much better. The solution could include stricter monitoring and limiting the amount of students in each restroom. It would also help if students cared about their school and its cleanliness, instead of trashing it.  Grade: C-

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOMECOMING

Dancing, goofy contests and getting dressed up basically sums up this year’s Homecoming. The students got a kick out of the theme days and showed their spirit at the pep rally. The theme was “Big School, Small Town,” so the cafeteria was decorated with sunflowers, windmills and hay bales. The music selection was fairly good. However, most of the students who went as a couple seemed disappointed in the lack of slow songs. All in all, the Homecoming dance and Spirit Week were great. Grade: A-
