Thirteen swimmers placed at the district meet, Jan. 25-26 with all of the swimmers qualifying for regionals.

“We did really well,” coach Marlene Blanchett said. “We’re taking the more swimmers than ever before to regionals.”

Top finishers at the meet were Amanda Alspaugh who took first in both the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle and freshman Haley Timmons who placed first in the 100 butterfly.

“This is the first time that we have ever placed that well at districts,” Alspaugh said.

Senior Jyna Leckbee finished second in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Two other swimmers also placed in individual events and qualified for regionals.

Three relays also placed at district and advanced to regionals, including the girls 200 yard freestyle relay, the girls 400 yard relay and the boys 200 yard freestyle relay.

The team travels to the regional meet Feb. 8 and 9 in Magnolia, near Houston.
