Standing for four hours, the buzz of chatter echoed among the building.
“The passports took forever to get,” sophomore Autumn Ames said. “It was like four
hours of waiting in line. All we needed was to get a few papers signed and snap a picture.”
Raiders ‘Round the World will be going on a 14-hour flight over to Italy in the summer
for a chance to explore.
“I’m bringing a book to read,” Ames said. “Since the flight is so long.”
To raise money for the trip, students had a garage sale and put flamingoes in
people’s yards. The point of putting the flamingoes in the yards is so the people who live there will have to pay for students to remove them. This is also known as flocking.
“I feel okay about volunteering and fundraising, but when it’s flocking I feel nervous,”
Ames said. “Not everyone appreciates flamingoes in their yard.”
There are two months left until they depart, June 13.
“I’m ecstatic,” freshman Adrianna Cascaddan said. “At first I was nervous. But now I can’t wait
to go.”
Rome, Venice and Florence are just a few of the cites Raiders ‘Round the World
students will see.
“I can’t wait to see Colosseum,” Cascaddan said. “Because it looks interesting and a lot
of people fought there.”
Not only does Cascaddan want to see the Colosseum, but she has also wanted to go to
Milan too.
“I’ve always dreamed of going to Italy,” Cascaddan said. “Especially Milan, but I don’t
think we are going there.”
Pre-AP English teacher KatieAnn Prescott will be taking the students and has dreams of her own.
“I want the students to experience different cultures and learn the history,” Prescott
said. “Also, I want them to develop a long love of traveling.”
