Talented tradition started

This year the Royals hosted a Mr. RHS pageant featuring the Alpha class senior boys. The pageant was a hilarious event and a smart tradition to start this year and continue with future classes. It gave the senior men a chance to show off and the audience a chance to enjoy a fun event. This was a wonderful way to show school spirit, support the Royals and start a new tradition. Grade: A+

Summer Sadness

Story continues below advertisement

The school schedule for 2012-13 has been released on the district website. The school year begins the fourth week of August on the 27th, instead of the third week. While this means we have a longer summer, we get out of school a week later than usual, as well. Usually, school ends the first day or two of June, but next school year it won’t be until the 7th. Even though it’s still the same amount of school time, it will feel like we’re in school longer. Grade: C

Playoff Bound

As a new school, sports teams take time to develop and grow, and moving into 4A last year was a struggle for many of the teams. While some teams like swim and wrestling have had success past the district level, it’s been mostly in individual events. But one team is changing that success record. The varsity boys basketball team has had an amazing season. With a second place finish in district and making the playoffs for the first time, the boys are setting a standard for the rest of athletics to reach for. Grade: A+

Breaking the Bathrooms

The girls’ bathrooms are kept clean and orderly throughout the day, but there’s just one problem ― the stall doors. Many of the doors in every bathroom either don’t stay shut or won’t shut at all. They have been so abused that the lock is broken, the door doesn’t match up with the lock, or the door hits the wall. It’s often difficult to get back to class in a reasonable time because you spend five minutes trying to hold a broken one shut and then end up waiting for a working stall to open. In the girl’s athletic locker room, someone has even fashioned a rubber band, hair tie contraption to literally hook the door shut so players won’t be late for practice. Girls need to stop being destructive to make using the restroom faster and easier for everyone. Grade: D
