C-squared holds Kindness Week, Nov. 14-18

Before the Rouse/Vista Ridge football game Nov. 3, students from the club C-squared (Coalition of Clubs) exchanged a Resolution of Respect. As part of the club’s goal, both schools’ want students to treat each other respectfully on and off the field.

“We’re proud to have joined the C-squared movement in LISD and share that excitement with our sister schools,” club sponsor Keli McCabe said. “We hope to put an emphasis on kindness as a way to ensure that everyone looks forward to coming to school every day.”

C-squared  is dedicated to giving students a voice, focusing on anti-discrimination and bullying awareness. The group held Kindness Week, Nov. 14-18 with a different theme each day. Monday was Pay it Forward, asking students to do a favor, give a compliment or make someone’s day. C-squared members wore smiley face rings as a symbol for a Random Act of Kindness and passed on the rings during the day as part of a “Pay it Forward” reminder. Tuesday is Awkward Day to celebrate life’s awkward moments. Wednesday is Celebrate Diversity, encouraging students to place their thumbprint on a map indicating where their family originated. Thursday is Show your Gratitude, giving students the change to express thanks on notes and post on a “Gratitude Wall.” On Friday, C-squared students will wear their club T-shirts and teach students the C-squared sign.

“I hope we improve the environment at Rouse,” president Paige Smith said. “We hope kids will step up when they see bullying, too.”
