Swim team brings home 9 first-place finishes at first meet

With nine first-place finishes, the swim team opened the season solidly at their first meet. The team competed in a dual against crosstown rival Leander High School, Sept. 17.

“The team did great,” coach Marlene Blanchett said. “I think everyone’s really excited to be competing this year, and I think we’re really going to enjoy being a full size team.”

The team started the meet strong with a win in the girls’ medley race. In individual races, Amanda Alspaugh placed first in the 200 yard IM and the 500 yard freestyle while her sister Mackenzie took first in 100 yard butterfly and the 100 yard backstroke. Jyna Leckbee won first in the 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke.

“I feel pretty good,” sophomore Amanda Alspaugh said. “I’m where I need to be for the start of the season, and I’m excited to see how we do throughout the year.”
