Future Farmers of America is quite involved in the community by doing community service often to give back and create learning experiences for the members.

“We do community service at least once a month to every two months.” FFA adviser Jackie Cole said. “It’s a way for us to humble ourselves and give back to the community and it’s so important that the members learn that we should give back to everyone and we should do it in many shapes and forms which is why we have multiple ideas this year to sort of give back as best as we can. I think it’s important for us to learn of that and the value in it.”

Nov 1 the club will be putting together homeless care packages during their meeting at 6 p.m.

“Something that we started last year that I think we’re going to do for  many years to come is the Homeless care packages through Pointe Of Hope which is through Rock Pointe Church here in Leander the organization actually goes out to Downtown Austin and takes little care packages with things like a towel, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and give to people who are homeless. It’s  just kind of a way to pep them up and give them a little more confidence and encourage them to try to do something better for themselves and make their day a little bit better too.”

Late in December, FFA will be doing a day long show for special needs kids with the animals.

“We’re just going to give them a day in the barn,” Cole said. “A day in the life of what barn life is like, the care, the feeding, the bathing. We’re also going to have a little show for them. We wanted to give them the opportunity to come out and see what it’s like and maybe even get them interested and participating if their parents will allow them. It will be a community service that Rouse FFA is putting on and have a couple other schools volunteer to offer their animals and help with the day of. We’ll be partnering with Glenn High School because we have some of their animals in the barn. It’s just going to be a way of giving back to the community and brighten their day.
