The varsity softball team wrapped up their season against Lake Travis, April 19. In the district game, the girls fought long and hard, going into extra innings to break the 4-4 tie. The final score was 7-4 with the Lady Cavaliers scoring three runs in the eighth to end the game.

       “I think that the last game has given us something to build off of for next year,” sophomore Jordan Glenn said. “I’m excited for next season to begin.”

       The game was representative of the team’s season, competing well against teams for most of the game, but struggling to pull out wins in the end. They finished up 1- 11 in district and 14-15 overall.

       ”We were always close to achieving our goal,” junior Tiffany Birdwell said. “But it somehow managed to slip away every time.”

       Highlights from the season included winning the consolation bracket at the Bryan-College Station tournament, Feb. 17-19, a 9-2 win over Vandegrift in the district opener, March 1 and scoring 23 runs in five games during the Georgetown tournament, March 4-5.

        “The team has a lot of highlights for this season, but I think the most memorable one is when we were in Bryan,” sophomore Brittany McKissick said. “We bonded together as a team to stop the fighting. At first it was a rough start but we found a way to join together and now we are closer than ever.”

       With no graduating seniors, the team is expected to stay intact next year.

       “The girls worked hard all year long and had a great start to the season,” Coach Jamie Southern said. “It was tough to lose so many close ball games, but I know with another year under the girls’ belt we are going to answer back next year.”
