Lupe Fiasco
Lasers
Atlantic Records
Lupe Fiasco has had all his fans patiently waiting for his new CD Lasers, which was released on March 8. It has been three years since he released an album and this is now his third. When I first heard his single “The Show Will Go On,” I was highly annoyed because it sampled “Float On” by Modest Mouse. In my opinion, I hate when rappers sample a rock song and that’s why I didn’t like it at first. After hearing it for a while, it grew onto me and it became my favorite songs off the album. There’s not one song that I dislike on Lasers. Putting aside some of the annoying chorus’, all of his songs are good. His raps are what make the song, not the chorus. It’s not as good as his previous albums, but it’s still good enough. You’ll like this CD if you like rap/hip-hop that doesn’t talk about the same things other rappers talk about. If you like “I Need a Doctor” by Dr. Dre, you should take a listen to “Words I Never Said,” the second song on the album. It features Skylar Grey, which is the same girl who sings the chorus in “I Need a Doctor.”
