New policies revealed at the senior class meeting will change how students buy their prom tickets this year. On March 26, Student Council announced that a completed contract will now be required before purchasing prom tickets, reversing the order of the process from previous years.
Contracts are now required to be printed out and turned in first thing. Only then when students have submitted their contracts, made up their hours and submitted an outside-guest form, if applicable, then they can purchase prom tickets online on the Rouse Webstore. The link only allows one click per person to buy tickets.
“I think the new system is honestly better because last year a ton of people came to the door all dressed up and we had to refuse them because they didn’t put in their contract,” senior and student body president Phoebe Huang said. “It’s a really great way to keep everyone accountable. It creates a basis where they don’t have to worry about anything happening after they pay.”
StuCo has held multiple meetings to address this year’s decorations, setup plans on prom day and new interactive opportunities for students to enjoy. A chocolate fountain and mac and cheese balls among other foods will be available as well as several photo opps and booths for attendees to capture themselves. Unlike previous years, there are new plans for this year’s setup leading up to prom day.
“In past years, we’ve usually set up decorations and all of them are handmade,” Huang said. “This year since we have Ms. Pojas, she’s more of a ‘hiring people to do the decorations for us’ person. It’s much less stress on us to do everything. We came up with all of the decoration ideas, but we found companies to build our stuff for us.”
Alongside these new plans to take action this year, StuCo decided on this year’s prom theme through input from their members. The Austin City Limits-inspired “Raider Fest” theme was chosen above other options such as ‘Enchanted Forest’, ‘Night in Paris’ and ‘Tangled.’
“I honestly think the theme is very creative,” Huang said. “I know for a lot of people it’s very controversial because people think they need to pair their dress and outfits to the theme which is not ideal because prom is supposed to be fancy. I think it’s really nice though because we’re straying farther from where our past themes have gone and I think that could be a really good thing.”
Prom will take place on April 26 from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m at the Kalahari Resort convention center. Senior and first-year attendee Conner Ford, she is looking forward to this year’s edition of prom.
“I want everybody to get on the dance floor and start going crazy,” Ford said. “Everyone tells me prom is lame and nobody dances but trust me I will be stepping out for prom.”
