Unbecoming novel keeps readers in suspense
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is a climactic haunting feature that hooked me from the opening paragraph. The story line follows junior Mara Dyer waking up from a traumatic “accident” that left her four best friends dead and Mara unscratched. Worried about her mental stability, Mara’s attorney father moves their family across the country to start over. Starting halfway through the semester in a new prestigious private school is enough for any teenager, let alone trying to put the pieces together of what happened that mysterious night. Throughout the book Mara is encountered with random flashbacks that take her back to the scene and she can slowly see what the night of the accident entailed. Mara is flooded with questions of what is really in her medication, whether or not her family has her best interest or not, if it was herself that killed her closest friends, and if she can stop herself from falling in love. This novel will hook you and have you intrigued with every page and every chapter. I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series. Well done Michelle Hodkin.
