The varsity baseball wrapped up their season against Vista Ridge, April 29. The team lost the away game with 13-3.
“We played well,” junior Charles Stewart said. “And found some new talent for next year.”
Moving up to 4A competition was a battle for most teams this year. The Raiders faced a tough district, finishing 2-10 in district and 9-19 overall.
“We competed relatively well and made improvements throughout the season,” coach Paul Cochran said. “This district is tough because of the quality of opponents, Division 1 talent and state ranked [teams].”
Highlights of district included a district opener win over Marble Falls with 9-6, March 15 and a second round win over Vandegrift 4-0, April 21.
“The best game was next to the last game against Vandegrift. It was exiting victory and a good rivalry,” Cochran said. “We won 4-0, Ed Butts pitched and Joey Chiappetta hit a double.”
Nine starters will return to play for next year’s team.
“We’ll have the same players on the team as last year because there’s no senior class leaving,” sophomore Aivery Schifler said.
