They trained all year for this. Twelve advanced to regionals, but how many would move on? The swim team competed in San Antonio, Feb. 7 with everyone advancing to finals the next day. Amanda and Mackenzie Alspaugh both advanced to state in their individual events along with both of the girls’ relays.

“It felt amazing having the opportunity to go to regionals and still manage to get 13th,” junior Andrew Thomas said. “I’m proud of the team and myself for accomplishing most of our goals.”

The girls’ medley relay placed third and the 200 freestyle relay placed second; both of the relays consisted of Makenna Hall, Mackenzie Alspaugh, Jyna Leckbee and Amanda Alspaugh.

In individual races, Mackenzie placed third in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100 butterfly. Jyna finished seventh in the 50 yard freestyle and fifth in the 100 breaststroke. Amanda finished third in the 200 yard Independent Medley and second in the 500 yard freestyle.

For the boys, Andrew Thomas finished 13th in the 200 IM and Dylan James finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke. The swim team has gone to regionals three times in a row with more people advancing each time.
