Strolling to the kitchen you can almost taste the sweet salty skin of the turkey that is balanced perfectly with the meat. The stuffing being made at the same time and let’s not forget the pumpkin pie. You can’t wait to sit around the table to savor each bit until it is all gone, not forgetting to remember the blessings that we have and be thankful.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, this is a great time to see our family and share our blessings. Not everyone can have a Thanksgiving. Many people are poor or have too many difficulties to participate in this event. But Thanksgiving enables us to gather together with our family that we might not see throughout the year. Even though at times we would rather skip the greetings and the small talk and just go straight for the dinner, we still take our time. Without taking our time and enjoying every minute then it wouldn’t be a special holiday.
But gathering with family is just one thing to be thankful for. We are blessed to not have school for a whole week. Some of us can remember that not too long ago we had to come to school on Monday and Tuesday. It’s nice to have a week to ourselves to not worry about studying, projects or anything school related.
Thanksgiving is a perfect time to also appreciate having a house and a family. Sometimes those annoying siblings become handy to have around. And of course, don’t forget about our parents. Sometimes they’re the magic that makes things happen for us. Then provide us with everything we need while still loving us.
Think about it. We’re the only country in the world that takes the fourth Thursday of November to give thanks for everything we have. Even when our country was first established, we gave thanks that we were able to make it a year in this strange land. As Thanksgiving approaches, we should remember to give thanks that we also are able to make it another year.
