The Boys Varsity Team prepares to run at the district meet

For the first time in school history, both girls and boys have advanced to the state competition. The teams both placed fourth at Region 2 6A regional meet in Arlington.

“Both teams did amazing,” junior Madie Boreman said. “After we found out both teams were going to state, we started hugging everyone and some seniors started crying.”

For the varsity girls, Boreman won the race in 17:45.23.

Haley Timmons came in third  followed by Helen Roddy eight Savy Escobar 56th and Sarah Warrenburg 66th ; bringing the girls overall team to fourth place and allowing them to advance to state.

“I’m excited and happy to run another day for the team,” Timmons said. “I’m also really excited for the competition.”

Suede Mora placed highest for the boys’ varsity team coming in at 15th with a time of 15:56.83.

Freshman Danny Madrid finished 26th, followed by Nico Escobar 49th, Connor Brooks 50th and Logan Zipkes 62nd; putting the boys overall score in fourth place as well.

“I’m just excited because throughout the year we’ve strived to go to state, that was our main goal,” senior Logan Zipkes said. “We know jumping from 5A to 6A was going to be a challenge, but we made it.”

The state meet will be held on Nov. 8, girls start at 12:30 pm and boys start at 1 pm.
