Deerhunter
Halcyon Digest
4AD Records
Released: Sept.p 28
Deerhunter’s albums have always been somewhat inconsistent in their style, usually starting out with a dreamy post-punk that sometimes falls into a sort of psychedelic pop with dense production. They take more of a simplistic, subdued, accessible approach on Halcyon Digest, but it still is the same old Deerhunter. Despite having mixed impressions on the first listen, the second listen provided me with feelings of nostalgia that remind me of looking through old picture albums that my parents put together before they had any kids, having a sort of dreamy feel to all of it. All of the songs are consistently great, nothing feels out of place, but the 5 minute bare-bones noodling of “Sailing” stands out as the defining moment for this album. This is an album for those that are into memories from a time when everything felt like it was going well, with no end in sight. – Phil Harlan
