Attacking the Court

She steps on the court, ready to attack the ball, whoosh, her racket swings.

Sophomore Brooke Hull first got interested in tennis in sixth grade, but didn’t get on a team until seventh.

“I wanted to be on a team,” Hull said. “My mom and dad were in tennis, and I kind of wanted to continue the tradition.”

Tennis is a very time consuming sport. It is year-round, from August to April, with practice after school till 6:30. Hull also has lots of other extracurriculars on top of that.

“I’m also involved in yearbook, band and student council,” Hull said. “Most of them do collide with tennis, but when you love something, you put your all into it no matter what.”

Despite her busy schedule, Hull loves tennis.

“I love the feeling of being on the court,” Hull said. “Knowing that every single person on your team is cheering for you and giving confidence while you play.”

Hull thinks this season is going pretty well, but still needs work.

“We’re a new team who goes on the court and never gives up,” Hull said. “We can at least come off the court and say we did our best.”

Hull’s inspiration to stay in tennis comes partly from her favorite professional tennis player.

“Venus Williams is awesome,” Hull said. “As soon as she steps on the court she’s beast. She’s independent and a CEO at her own company.”

However, a large part of her inspiration comes from within herself.

“I stay in tennis because I like being active, a lot of my friends are in tennis,” Hull said. “The winning and losing part is also important, but most importantly is because I’m doing something I love.”
