Gracepoint, the American version of the popular British show Broadchurch, is a slow burn. The small California town is plagued by the death of a little boy with Detectives Ellie Miller (Anna Gunn) and Emmet Carver (David Tennant) working together on his case. The problem is that they don’t get along.

Both detectives provide interesting perspectives on the case, Miller is a long-time resident of the town, while Detective Carver is a brand new outsider. The first episode set up the mystery for the 10-part miniseries, along with the grieving for the boy, who is the son of Miller’s best friend.

From David Tennant opting for an American accent over his Scottish one to the similarities of the new show to its British counterpart Broadchurch, I enjoyed the pilot. I am an avid fan of Tennant, so hearing him talk with anything but a Scottish or English accent is pretty funny, but he is a talented actor and I think he pulled it off well.

The pilot of Gracepoint was pretty much an exact copy of Broadchurch, so like the British version, I found it a bit slow. The curiosity about the killer is what kept me watching the original version, and so far I am anticipating next week’s episode with the same feeling.
