One of the many challenges of high school is stress. Many high school students tend to feel overwhelmed
with classes, keeping their grades up, extracurriculars. Time management becomes very important and
procrastination comes back to bite.
Homework is a big time-consumer, as it is unavoidable and often times pushed to the end of the day. Those
who tend to procrastinate will most likely end up either failing their classes or always trying to catch up. Teachers
throughout the different grade levels tend to assign too much homework and not enough time. If you are involved in
extracurriculars, then most of your time is swallowed up. When teachers assign the homework, they usually don’t
take into account the fact that two days might not be enough time for a project that will take roughly two hours. If you
don’t have that much time, then those two hours will be pushed late into the night before it is due.
Extracurriculars often get in the way of things like homework. Practices take up time otherwise used for
studying, so grades begin to slide. Then, when the end of the six weeks comes around, we are left scrambling to get
our grades high enough. If a student were to fail, then they cannot participate in sports. So one of the biggest reasons
there is so much stress over grades is because of the same thing that caused them to drop in the first place!
High school is crazy, but in the end, it all pays off. These few years are just the preparation for the rest of
your life. The best way to handle this is to commit yourself completely to the task at hand, and push through the
stress.
