Raider Camp for freshmen Aug. 13-14, luau Friday
August 13, 2014
“I Believe.” The R symbol. The Commons. The incoming freshmen will become familiar with these things when they attend Raider Camp, Aug. 13-14. Every year, senior leadership students walk the new high school students around and introduce the new students to the culture and atmosphere.
“Raider Camp is important for freshmen because they learn how to walk around the school and makes them feel comfortable with entering such a big school,” senior Student Council member Kelly Meza said. “We give the freshmen tours, play games, perform dress code skits and teach them the cheers and chants.”
StuCo hosts the camp and it allows the freshmen an opportunity to learn the school chants and bond with their future classmates. Each group of freshmen and seniors participate in games and other school spirit-related and team building activities. The groups also tour the building and learn how to navigate the school.
This year the incoming freshmen will also take their student ID pictures at camp. Students should be dropped off at the bus lanes between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Parents are asked to return at 7 p.m. for a short meeting in the auditorium.
Students with the last name beginning A-K should attend Wednesday, Aug. 13 and L-Z should come Thursday, Aug. 14. If incoming freshmen miss their assigned day, they are still encouraged to come on the second day.
Raider Camp attendants will receive their schedules at the end of the evening and have the opportunity to talk to their counselors and buy Raider spirit gear in the cafeteria.
In addition, StuCo will host a luau for the incoming freshman Friday, Aug. 15 in the cafeteria from 6-8 p.m. Project Grad will sell concessions and the leadership students will provide entertainment.
