Four athletes and one relay team placed at the regional meet April 24-25 in San Antonio.

The boys 4×100 relay team finished fifth, senior Maddie Sanford took fifth in the triple jump and Beechum was third in the long jump, just one place shy of returning to state.

“It’s actually very disappointing on my part because I knew I could’ve done better than what I did,” Beechum said. “[If I could change anything] I would’ve changed my approach off the board to make you go farther.”

Lentz, who said she was nervous about qualifying for state, finished second in the 400.

“I was very happy because I got a new personal best,” Lentz said. “I won second place for regionals, and I’m super nervous because I’m going against all the other girls that are really good.”

Boreman also advanced to state, winning the 1600 and 3200 at regionals.

“I felt good about winning first place for both them two mile and one mile, but I didn’t run as fast as I wanted to,” Boreman said. “I’m excited to be going against some good competition because it makes me want to work harder.”

The two sophomores will compete at the state meet, May 9-10 at The University of Texas.

“I expect both girls to be tough and compete to the very best of our abilities,” girls coach Kelly Thompson said. “I don’t expect any miracles, just follow the game plan that we have been working on all season.  Everyone at the state meet is an outstanding athlete, so it will be fun to see where we stand.”
