Polish Perfection
From neon colors to glittery options, freshman obsesses over the perfect look for her nails
April 25, 2014
It all started when I was a young and very opinionated child. I was uncoordinated and messy back then so my mom helped with my plain and colorless nails. Certain colors of the rainbow went with certain outfits even if they didn’t match. That is how kids think right? Or was that just me? Now, if you haven’t guessed it yet, I am obsessed with nail polish.
As soon as I saw my first bottle of nail polish I knew it was meant to be. The huge variety of colors and shades was just too much for my childish brain. My mom would continue to buy nail polish but she was sticking to the same color family. I was boring walking around with pink and red nails all the time with no design whatsoever. I needed extra color and a pop of random color splattered on my nails.
When my mom stopped painting her nails, I took over her small collection and added to it. I made sure to get a new bottle of nail polish every time I went to a store. I researched what the best brands were and which brands had the perfect colors. I would follow tutorials on YouTube for a new design to impress friends and family with. My life became a world of mismatched colors and patterns, for I was painting my nails every weekend.
The small wood drawer in the bathroom became packed full of my nail polish that soon my parents started complaining that it just had to be moved. We developed some ideas for nail polish storage and found one that was perfect. My dad set out to build to build the shelf and that weekend it was done. It was painted a brilliant blue and fitted perfectly on my closet wall. I then took some time to organize it from my first color of pink all the way to crazy colored fuzzy ones. When you love to paint your nails you develop the passion for crazy weird colors and designs.
My, now, teenage brain was illuminated with color. This simple collection started with a single bottle and formed into about 100. I will ask you now. Am I overly obsessive or crazy? I simply describe this as a teenage dream that came true. A dream to have a great collection that I can be proud of.
