Varsity softball makes playoffs for first time in school history
April 23, 2014
After beating Vandegrift 8-1 April 17, the varsity girls softball team snagged a playoff spot for the first time ever in school history.“It was a great moment,” senior Courtney Lucero said. “Everyone was excited and they were all just screaming and happy, and at the end of the game we did the ‘Whose House’ chant with everybody in the stands.”
The girls started district with a 10-5 loss against Vista Ridge Feb. 25, but bounced back winning 8-0 against Cedar Park March 4.
“Beating them was really exciting because we beat them by a lot,” senior Rachelle Moser said. “One of our mottos is fight to win, so every single inning we just fight to win.”
The girls had a rollercoaster season, losing to Dripping Springs both rounds of district, but defeating Marble Falls in both rounds.
“We had our ups and our downs,” Lucero said. “We had injuries but we were able to overcome those, and keep fighting and we definitely earned our spot in the playoffs.”
The girls finished 6-6 overall in district, taking the final playoff spot.
“Making playoffs is really exciting especially because it’s my senior year,” Moser said. “We worked really hard to get here, and we’re all really excited because we were tied for fourth place all year, and we just worked really hard to secure that spot in the playoffs.”
The team plays Crockett at home Friday, April 25 in the first round for the bi-district championship. The winner moves on to the area round of playoffs.
