Movies that make you laugh

50-first-dates50 First Dates (2004)

A womanizer living in Hawaii, played by the ever-hilarious Adam Sandler, decides to give up his noncommittal life when he falls for Lucy (Drew Barrymore). But a car accident has caused Lucy to suffer from short-term memory loss and she has no recollection of Henry. Henry’s attempts to continually win her love again each day are hilarious. This comedy will make you laugh no matter how many times you see it.

Brides MaidsBridesmaids (2011)

Bridesmaids is just one of those movies. Though it is a rom-com, which is a genre typically associated with woman, any type of person will enjoy this movie. Full of hilarious women, including Kristin Wigg and Melissa McCarthy, the movie follows a group of friends attempting to plan one of their weddings. Cute guys with accents, mean girls and life all get in the way of what they expect to be a fun and easy experience.

crazy-stupid-love06Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011)

When sad sack husband Cal (Steve Carell) starts ruining the vibe at a local bar, a professional lothario Jacob (Ryan Gosling) befriends him to shut him up. His unflinching assessment of Cal’s life provides a sharp wit that contrasts with Cal’s humorous attempts to navigate the dating world. Jacob’s attempt at a real relationship with Hannah (Emma Stone) results in a surprise twist with more hijinks and a heartwarming ending.

The Proposalthe Proposal (2009)

This movie couldn’t be any more outrageous. Book editor Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) forces her assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds), to act as her fiancé to not be deported back to Canada. Anyone would be crazy to go along with this idea if they knew and understood how crazy Tate was, but Paxton sure gave it a try and gave us the wonderful ending we hoped for.

Movies that make you cry

great_gatsbyThe Great Gatsby (2013)

With his over-the-top color schemes, modern-meets-classical soundtracks and obsession with doomed love, Baz Luhrmann has created another cinematic paradise with this update of the classic novel. With slow jazz, fast cars and a mansion that holds the party of the century every night, this rendition is nothing less than hypnotic. However, it teaches the deadly lesson that you cannot repeat the past, no matter how hard you try.

marley and meMarley and Me (2008)

There will never be a movie that will make someone laugh and cry so much in a two and a half hour span. Starting off happy-go-lucky, and then turning ever so sad, Marley and Me makes pet owners’ hearts go out. From the happy family to the wild, yet loving yellow lab, this movie made some of the funniest animal scenes in movie history, while then turning around at the end and becoming the saddest.

NotebookThe Notebook(2004)

Coming in as one of the saddest movies of all time, The Notebook is sure to make even the manliest of men tear up. With Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams playing Noah and Ally, they create the everlasting romance that these two people have for each other. This story really starts playing with your heart when you realize how the two story lines connect and begin to understand how much Noah really loves Ally.

Even if you’re not a wallflower, you inevitably fall in love with the one in this story: Charlie, a vulnerable but loving boy who types to his anonymous “friend” on a typewriter about his newly made degenerate friends. The film does it justice more than anyone can say. But whether you read the book or watch the movie, you are in for a ride of joy, tears and awesome music, and it teaches you what it means to be infinite.

titanic-11431Titanic (1997)

This movie has an almost Romeo and Juliet feel to it; two different people from two different worlds fall in love with each other. Add in the real-life factor of the famous ship sinking, and well, you have a whole other reason to tear up. Seeing the ship break apart, the people screaming in the freezing water and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) slipping away into the ocean abyss is heart-breaking.
