The Novice Latin Certamen team won first place at their tournament, Dec. 14.
During Certamen tournaments, students are asked questions over Roman history, mythology, life, customs and Latin grammar. Freshmen Sara Basinger, Daniela Gutierrez, Hannah Simmons and Mark Simmons won the final by 80 points.
“[I felt] very proud, I’m actually surprised we won because I wasn’t really expecting what happens,” Simmons said. “I was very happy and excited. We took some pictures with the trophy, and then we went home.”
