Forty-four new members were inducted into National Honor Society Wednesday, Oct. 23. Students were selected based on their GPA and the four principles of NHS: character, service, leadership and scholarship.
The ceremony began with NHS president senior Maddie Sanford speaking, followed by a welcome speech by Principal John Graham and ended with a candle lighting ceremony and the NHS pledge.
“I liked how when we did the candles and everybody lit their candles,” junior Lauren Shuffield said. “It looked really cool and I felt connected with the other members.”
To stay in NHS, members are required to complete at least three service hours during the first semester and a community service project during the second semester. Members must also attend each monthly meeting. NHS now has a total of 65 members.
“Ms. Nelson and I are so proud of our students and our officers,” co-sponsor Rosie Palazzolo said. “We have an exceptional group of students and we look forward to a great year.”
