I was so hungry.
Who knew that a little piece of metal could cause so much discomfort? And anything other than thick tomato soup wasn’t dared to be eaten. Maybe I’m just being overly dramatic, but having braces really bites.
I’ve known that I’ve needed braces ever since I was eight, so I wasn’t particularly nervous. I had been given various bits of advice, like how to clean them and what not to eat, so I got a rough idea of what to expect.
However, there were a few things I didn’t see coming; the first being how much effort was now needed to keep liquids from falling out of my mouth. I’m already unbelievably liquidly challenged as is.
Eating also became difficult. For the next few days “cooking” microwavable soups became my forte.
I had been warned that for a few days I wouldn’t be able to eat much. The first thing I tried after getting them was a Hershey Kiss. Thinking that chocolate isn’t too hard and that it wouldn’t hurt too badly, I took a bite. I was sorely mistaken. For once in my life, chocolate wasn’t the answer.
I’m still having trouble eating after a few weeks, but it’s a lot better. Even though I’m still limited in my food choices and cleaning my teeth takes twice as long, it should make up for it when I finally get the strait teeth I’ve longed for.
