The theatre department kicked off their first fall show Thursday, Oct. 10 with the play Fortinbras. This show is post Hamlet, in which a new king named Fortinbras encounters the ghost of the characters from the previous tragedy who try to help him rule.
“When envisioning what our first fall show together would be, we had big dreams. Fortinbras, while one of the most fun and exciting shows to work on, is also incredibly difficult for the entire production team,” director Stephanie Smith said. “The cast has had to learn comedic timing, stage sword fighting choreography, acrobatic and physically-grueling blocking, polish translations and dialects, Shakespearean language and appearance techniques all while appearing ghost-like.”
The second performance is Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students that have brought their current school ID and $8 for general admission.
“It’s exciting. It’s going to be crazy and funny, but it’ll have its serious moments,” senior Tristan Biedermann said. “It’s going to be pretty cool because we are using real steel swords.”
In addition to the fall show, AP Theatre students will compete Nov. 6 at the Texas Renaissance Festival Performance Contest. They will perform two duets, two monologues, and a group scene
