With so many scary movies that have already been made, the film industry has seemed to have a hard time coming up with new ideas for terrifying flicks that impress the audience. Seeing all the great ratings from critics, I went into You’re Next expecting to see a fantastic horror movie. However, I came out disappointed and annoyed.
During the Davidson family reunion, Crispian (AJ Bowen) brings his girlfriend Erin (Sharni Vinson) to meet his large, audacious family. They are all shocked when they are attacked by a gang of men hidden behind masks, each featuring a different animal. Trapped inside their parents’ pretentious home, one by one, members of the family are gruesomely murdered. In an attempt to save the helpless family, Erin proves herself to be the best killer of them all.
That sounds like an interesting plot, however, it’s not. Unfortunately, when you add in awful actors and lame humor, the movie becomes flat and not entertaining in just a few minutes. Half of the family is murdered off so quickly, you wonder how the movie can keep going.
With the movie being three-fourths awful, I did happen to enjoy a small fraction of this horror/thriller film. A few surprise elements that hooked me in were finding out the reasons behind the attack and the culprits getting unmasked eventually which made the movie a tad bit better to watch.
