Love at the first click… no thanks!

I can understand that we all like to keep up with that what is happening in the online world. Friends and family stay connected and are able to share pictures or simply their opinion. We are constantly checking on how the world is doing.

I also understand that everyone has problems to fight against this addiction. We all struggle with the danger to fall into this virtual world of communication, and not be able to escape. The constant urge to like a picture or tweet what’s on your mind seems to be invincible.

But I think in one point we have to set limits. For example: Online dating. Finding your love online is one of the new inventions that makes me scared. I was sitting at the computer, as my mom came in and slammed a book in front of me. “Read that. It’s your future.” Unaware of was lying in front of me, I said that whatever it is, she shouldn’t have brought it, because these days we can find everything online. My mom responded: “Yeah…That’s the point.”

The book was about the rapidly increase of online dating sites.

Forty million people in the US tried online dating in the past year. Forty million from a total of 54 singles in the US. Seriously? I don’t want to be one of them. Who would like to say at their wedding: “When I first saw his profile, I just knew he was the one!”? –Well, congratulations. Very romantic. Do you want to thank eHarmony before you change your relationship status?

This dating site (eHarmony) is the biggest in the US with 20 million members. But that’s not enough—the industry is booming, and by the time my generation is in their 20s, people are going to have dating profiles like they have driver’s licenses.

That is what scares me.

Everyone is losing themselves in their own virtual world so that no stranger has the opportunity to access in their real one. When you keep your eyes on the phone, you might miss the person walking by, who potentially could be the love of your life.

I want to meet a person on my own, and don’t let machines pick matches for me. But how is that going to work if everyone is looking at their phone to chat with hotgirl77.

For real? Yes, sadly. It is real. And if we don’t try to change it, it will get worst.

So, the next time you’re in public: Pick your head up. Phone out of sight. Open your eyes. And try it old school. Because love at first sight sounds better than love at first click.
