Former sub joins staff as engineering teacher

Engineering teacher Cory Smith quit his job after being hired at Dell halfway through the semester. Permanent substitute Richard Bowers was chosen to fill the empty spot. Bowers is more than qualified for the job, having a degree in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic. Bowers used to substitute for math around the district, until Calculus and Algebra II teacher Cathy West required a permanent substitute for a month or two.

“After having Mr. Smith for two years it was a bummer to see him go,” senior Mason Machart said.  “Fortunately, Mr. Bowers has filled the position and brought a new attitude to the class.”

After college, Bowers was employed at Dell.  He has been working with high school aged kids since college and after working with the youth at Life Church, however, he decided we wanted to become a teacher.

“I love watching that ‘click’ moment,” Bowers said.  “The high point is relating to you guys.  I love seeing you guys teach each other, that satisfaction in improving knowledge.”
