The dance department took the stage for their final performances of the year, April 18-20.
“I thought it was cool how it brought everyone together,” junior Lauren Palmer said. “It provided entertainment in a positive way and gave a lot of people the opportunity to come out of their shells and show off their talent.”
The showcase, titled “Soundtrack to Your Life,” consisted mainly of themed dance routines addressing issues such as domestic abuse, breast cancer and unrequited love. However, there were also whimsical dances such as a medley performed by the Royals and their fathers as well as a water ballet routine.
“It was fun to be able to do something funny, taking a step back from one of our usual serious routines,” junior Caitlin Burgess said. “We were able to just have fun and let go.”
Though the Revue mainly focused on the Royals, it also featured performances from the color guard, Intone-Nation Show Choir and the school’s dance classes.
“The Royal Revue was a fascinating experience for color guard,” Palmer said. “It was amazing to see how we and the other departments impacted the audience.”
The show ended with a finale of the senior Royals being announced and putting their hats up, representing the end of a reign, and the end of a school year.
“It’s definitely hard because we’ve grown so close,” junior Shaye Whitt said. “But I know they’re all about to go on their own journeys, so I’m excited about them.”
With the end of a high school career, there is also room for future dancers.
“We’re having a lot more people dance next year, we’re growing a lot as a department,” junior Victoria Wilson said. “Next year we’re going to compete more.”
Now that the year is over for these dancers, they can reflect on their accomplishments from this year and prepare for next year.
“I think Royal Revue is one of the best parts of the year,” junior Kelly Ford said. “You get to see all the dances the girls have done, and it’s a lot of fun.”
