Nine AVID sophomores raised $366.50 for Relay for Life Friday, April 19 at Running Brushy Middle School.
Joey Taito, Stephanie Gomez, Gabriel Trevino, Paola Maya, Jessica Dozier, Zach Lauden, Adrian Montes, Alexa Lowden and Sandra Diaz participated in the American Cancer Society annual fundraiser, calling themselves Raiders for Life. For 12 hours, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., they camped out at the track, taking turns walking around the track during the night.
They won two awards at the event, including Rookie Team of the Year and Most Enthusiastic Team.
“I’ve done it before so I already knew what was going on, but this year it was for community service,” Trevino said. “It was challenging to stay up all night. I really wanted to sleep, but everyone was loud and it made it impossible. I was excited because it was exciting to raise money for other people.”
