Four students place at state Sprachfest competition

Eight students participated in the Sprachfest German competition, Feb. 23 at UT Austin. There were more than 2,000 students from all over Texas competing in different events involving the German language or culture.

“I feel like not all of the other languages have competitions like this,” senior Sophia Schwab said. “We get to show off our knowledge of the language and its culture.”

Four students placed at the meet. Freshman Austin Brunger took eighth in Culture one, junior Olha Lukoshina took eighth Vocabulary two, senior Sydney Woolcock placed seventh in Vocabulary three  and Schwab and Lukoshina took sixth in Photo Essay.

“It’s nice to see that other people have the same interests,” Woolcock. “We got to compete against a bunch of people and learn some new German words.”
