The varsity boys fell in the area round of playoffs, Feb. 16 to No. 16 Alamo Heights losing 58-40.
“They were really good and their 6′ 10 kid was very difficult to contain,” head coach Shane Krause said. “We fought hard and were competitive, but in the end, their size was too much to overcome. I am proud of the team for our season, especially the seven seniors.”
The Mules got an early start on the Raiders, going up 14-8 in the first quarter and taking an 11-point lead into halftime. The team never caught up as Alamo Heights hit 50 percent of their shots and cruised to an 18-point win.
“Honestly, we didn’t do as well as we wanted and we didn’t go as far as we hoped to go, but it was still overall a successful season,” senior Justin Alger said.
Eight players scored in the loss, with junior Kris Chatman leading the team with eight points.
The boys advanced to the area round after winning their first round game against Travis High School at Concordia. Although they started out behind in the first half with a score of 22-19, they pulled ahead in the third quarter, and won with a score of 56-48.
“We played alright,” senior Jordan Vise said. “We really picked up around the second half.”
Chatman led the team with 17 points, including two three pointers.
“I felt proud that I was able to help our team win our first playoff match-up,” Chatman said.
The team finishes the season 24-13 overall with seven members of the varsity team graduating.
“The season went well,” senior Tyler Noble said. “I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys to play with.”
