Seventeen students to compete at Sprachfest state contest

Seventeen German students competed in the Sprachfest German competition, Feb. 8 in San Antonio. The team placed fifth overall with 21 top 10 finishes. Seven students qualified to state and will compete Feb. 23.

“It’s great that everybody works together to help each other advance,” sophomore Pascal Santiago said.

The varsity Pass Auf Team took third in the quiz show, also advancing to State. Team members include Sophia Schwab, Julia Auchey, Sydney Woolcock and Austin Finn The Novice Pass Auf team placed second overall as well. Team members include Evan Swenson, Jessica Weeks, Sierra Johnson, Melissa Childers and Courtney Landers.

“I think it’s cool that we beat a lot of the other schools that went,” Woolcock said.

Students advancing to state include the following:

Pascal Santiago- second place in advantaged extemporaneous speaking

Austin Brunger-  first place in Culture level one

Sydney Woolcock- second in Culture level three

Fausto Martinez- in listening comprehension level two

Olga Lukoshina- second in reading comprehension level two and fifth in vocabulary level two and in photo essay

Sophia Schwab- fifth in photo essay
