After making it to the second round, the varsity girls basketball team were knocked out of the playoffs with a 51-38 loss to Clemens, Feb. 14.
“Overall, it went okay but there were probably some downfalls with the momentum is where we got off,” junior Korvette Phillips said. “The intensity shift was bad in the second quarter. Our fundamentals we weren’t doing what we should have been. We were too serious. We needed to have more fun, we were too uptight.”
From the beginning Clemens held the lead and remained up on the Lady Raiders for most of the game. Just before halftime Clemens scored a last minute basket, to stretch their lead to seven points.
“There was a domino effect that usually doesn’t happen. We just lost one after the other,” Phillips said. “We needed to improve our fundamentals like boxing and passing.”
Despite the early exit from the playoffs, the Lady Raiders made history by being the first varsity girls team to move on to postseason play.
“It was exciting none of us had experienced before,” junior Baylee Peck said. “We did a lot but not everything that we wanted. Even though we weren’t able to make it as far as we wanted we did a lot this season. We made a lot of history and did a lot of things that people didn’t think we could do.”
The team currently consists of only three seniors, meaning that most of team will return next season.
“Overall I’m still proud of the team,” Philips said. “I’m excited to be a part of the group of girls that made Rouse history. I have no regrets despite the last game. Next year I want to not only make it to playoffs but go as far as we can go. This year we definitely set the bar high.”
