Staffers choose their favorite comfort foods for when they’re feeling blue

Ice cream as comfort food probably sounds cliché, but the moment you take that first bite, it’s heaven. The rich and creamy taste can usually make anybody feel better. It’s perfect on any day – warm or cold, and there’s surely a flavor for everyone, whether it be mint chocolate chip, pistachio almond or cookie dough. And if you’re watching weight, there’s diet-friendly options as well that also taste amazing. If you’re ever in a bad mood, you can always grab a bowl of ice cream, pop in a comedy and instantly feel better. Although, be careful. Don’t let it sit there, or else you’ll end up with a bowl of ice cream soup. –Bridget O’Malley

It’s no wonder chocolate is one of our best known comfort foods. It’s been scientifically proven that chocolate makes us happier. Chemistry aside, chocolate cake is moist, rich and goes great with ice cream. Chocolate cake is an ideal treat for Valentine’s Day, whether you’re all by your lonesome, or if you have someone to share it with. But let’s face it, having it all to yourself makes being single that much sweeter. –Kayla Peterson

The creamy cheese, the tender noodles – these things make macaroni and cheese the epitome of comfort food. Whenever life gets you down, and you’re wearing a frown, mac n’ cheese won’t leave you behind. The cheese practically lulls you into a bed of soft, but not mushy, noodles, in which you can take a relaxing cheesy nap. I love to eat, and I have to say mac n’ cheese is one of the best things to eat on a bad day. It is a quick make, cheesy treat and extremely comforting. –James Amell

Break ups, school drama, a best friend fight – when logic can’t fix life, comfort food can. Queso is delicious and warm and very comforting, it’s Mexican food powers are unmatched by most and it’s a food that takes a while to eat rather than one quick bite and you have to find a new snack. However, despite its warm comforting powers it does have on flip side, it can be very hot. I am not one to handle any kind of spice so I admit that I’m a wimp when it comes to that, but I do see it as a downside to this delicious food. Overall, comforting, time consuming, helpful, but a little spicy. –Rachel Sloan

When you’re down in the dumps, there is nothing quite like good old fashioned Southern cooking to cheer you up. There is something about steamy fried chicken and a glass of iced tea that can turn the worst moods around. Fried chicken with your choice of potato, whether it is mashed or fried, all coated in gravy has a way of taking your problems off of your mind and easing the pain in your heart. This savory deliciousness is the quality is what makes Southern cooking the ultimate comfort food. –Shelly Spencer
