The boys’ soccer team has started off the season strong going into district with a 5-5-2 record. The team has been getting to know each other better after every game as they grow to their district goals.
“The guys are gaining more confidence each game,” head coach Darrell Knight said. “We are going to be a big factor in district. Like other sports we are looking to make our first appearance in play offs this year.”
Many of the games have been close this season including a 3-2 win over Hays, Jan. 12 during tournament play and a 0-0 tie against Del Valle, Feb. 5.
“[Del Valle] was a really close match,” senior Jesus Wong de Leon said. “That’s how our district matches are going to be. We worked pretty well together and we have created a better connection throughout the games. With every game we gain more experience as a team.”
The team has 10 games in district this year, which they have to win most of them to get in the top four teams, so they can go for the first time to playoffs. District begins Feb. 8, with the boys playing their first game against Cedar Park at home.
“We are going to do really good,” senior Brady Lambert said. “We are playing some strong teams and I think we are really playoff bound this year.”
