HOSA will host the school’s first-ever blood drive in the athletic study hall Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will be excused from class, but they must pre-register, be 17 years old or older and weigh at least 115 pounds.
“My students will help the HOSA volunteers,” Health Science Technology teacher Pam Risser said. “It helps make the kids aware of the health and living issues, as well as find an understanding of what to do to help others.”
HOSA is an organization set up in order to give students an opportunity to meet the needs of the health care community by providing the knowledge and skills necessary for success.
“I will be volunteering to help out the blood drive by lining people up and helping the blood drive staff,” senior Briggs Schraeder said. “I hope to get experience with phlebotomy and blood types.”
Interested students and faculty can register between Jan. 28 and Feb. 1 in Risser’s room, 6101, in the ACT building.
