COOL Week begins Feb. 4, during February Conference, for seniors and lasts throughout that week. Seniors who participate will be placed in the field of work that they plan to pursue and will be able to work in that field for up to a week under the supervision of someone who already does it.
This year 50 seniors are participating, a huge improvement from last year’s 32 who participated.
“We are really excited about the increased participation,” College transition counselor Kim Adcock said. “It’s an awesome opportunity to experience work in the real world with help from a professional in that industry.”
Students will be deployed to numerous businesses in the area including the ACC ECS office, Hill Country News, and schools not in the Leander ISD School District. For some students who cannot be put in their field of choice, they are being placed in a related field of work. Senior Morgan Dever, who wants to be a pediatric surgeon, will work at Davis Elementary to gain experience with children.
“It’s really going to help me decide if I can handle kids for that long,” Dever said. “It’s a really awesome that I get this chance so I can know if I can handle that career.”
