It seems to me that as the world progresses, the people in it seem to be on a downward slope. We have devices capable of incredible things at our fingertips, and yet we do not use them for their full potential.
We have the capability to access any information we could ever think of, to reach people on the other half of the world at any given moment. But do we take advantage of our technology to accomplish great things? No. We sit on our couches and look at videos of house cats, while watching Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo.
I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with entertainment, but we have come to the point where we squander the potential we have been given. If the great scientists who have impacted our world, say Einstein or Newton, were given the chance to access our technology they wouldn’t waste time checking how many followers they have on Instagram. They would instead use every second they had to further enhance the world.
I’m not asking for everyone to give up the things that entertain them, that would be ridiculous. Of course one of the great things about technology is the ease it can bring to our lives. All I’m saying is that next time, instead of posting a picture of your best impression of a duck, try posting a link to a news article or at the very least tweet something that has meaning.
