The wrestling team hit the mat recently for their new season.
“I get in the zone by relaxing and listening to music,” junior JV wrestler Kyle Unger said. “It gets pretty nerve-racking before you get out on the mat, but once you get out there, it’s all good.”
At the Capitol Classic at the Delco Center, Nov. 16, Unger placed third in the 132 lb. weight class for the junior varsity team. Unger was one of 10 JV wrestlers who placed.
“I’m going to have a winning record and represent our school,” Unger said. “I’ll show the best that Rouse has to offer.”
The varsity team competed the next day with both girl wrestlers placing and six boys placing, including Jose Rangel winning the 120 lb. weight class.
While the team had a close seven point loss to Cedar Park in a dual, Nov. 28, they performed well at Georgetown Dec. 1, with the varsity team taking third with wins over Vandegrift, Georgetown and Bowie. Twelve JV wrestlers placed at Georgetown.
“The people are like family,” Wesley Crisler said. “I give it all I got; it doesn’t matter about the scoreboard.”
The JV team held a home meet last Wednesday and traveled to Leander Saturday where the varsity girls also competed. The varsity boys competed at Frisco Saturday and will host a home dual Thursday.
