AP Theatre students take first in group scene contest

AP Theatre students took first in the Renaissance Festival group scene contest on Wednesday, Nov.7. Seniors Zach Short, Brianna Rood, Paige Smith, Sophie Schwab, Adryelle Villamizar and sophomore Taylor Criswell performed the scene “While Shakespeare Slept.”

“We go to Ren Fest to have fun,” Criswell said. “We aren’t just dying to win, but it’s nice to win. When we got called everybody was super excited.”

Renaissance Festival is an annual festival near Houston the Advanced Productions, JV Advanced Productions and Advanced Technical Theatre students attend every year. Several groups competed in monologue, duet, group and one-act contests while also getting to experience the life of people from the Renaissance era.

“I felt like I stepped into a new world. I felt like the rules of the world I just left did not apply anymore,” junior Austin Thompson said. “I felt happy and free spirited and able to converse with people I thought were very cool. You have not lived until you have bid somebody good morrow.”
