The Advanced Productions theatre classes will compete at the Texas Renaissance Festival, Nov. 7. The AP theatre class will participate in in the monologue, group scene and duet acting competitions while the junior varsity class which will compete in a one-act play and a group scene.
“My favorite thing about Ren Fest is watching my students explore and perform, especially in such a historically rich setting,” director Stephanie Smith said.
The festival allows students to be engulfed into a world of the Renaissance and teaches them how to pull audiences in and how to appreciate theatre throughout history.
“I love it,” said senior Joshua Pagan, who will be returning to the festival for the second time. “I get to compete in the Romeo and Juliet balcony scene duet with Brandy Giordano.”
The AP students will perform for the public Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in the amphitheater, which is the concrete steps in between the main building and the performing arts building at 6 p.m. The show will include scenes from While Shakespeare Slept, Romeo and Juliet, Taming of the Shrew, Julius Ceaser, Twelfth Night, Hamlet and the One-Act-Play The Wife of Bath’s Tale. Admission is free, but donations are always accepted.
Future performances include a Fall Showcase presented by the Theatre II/III/IV classes, who will perform “The Audition” and “The Rehearsal” Nov. 5 6 p.m. in the auditorium and the LISD Thespian Showcase “Stage Door” at Vandegrift High School, which will be Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and will cost $5.00.
