Freshman Madie Boreman won the varsity girls cross country at the district meet, Friday, Oct. 26.
“It felt good to win,” Boreman said. “I’ve been getting high rankings throughout the races but I knew there were other strong runners from other schools, so I was pretty surprised.”
Boreman, who has consecutively placed in the top 10 at meets, was well ahead of her competition for the cold morning race at Old Settler’s Park. She finished in 18:10.90, almost 22 seconds before the second finisher, Dripping Springs’ Jenny Fritz.
Teammate Helena Castle placed in 11th, just missing a regional spot.
“I was excited to run district because the whole team worked so hard,” Castle said. “And I got my fastest time this season, which I was happy about.”
On junior varsity, sophomore Kenna Dekle was the JV girls top finisher, taking seventh place while teammates Becca Alvara and Mariah Gallegos eighth and 11th.
“I was really excited to know that all my hard work from since June 11 had paid off,” Dekle said. “I contributed to the team, and that we’ve all been working hard, not just as an individual but as a team improving.
