Band’s “Wiggalo” moment unites school

We always rave about how much school spirit we have whether it be at games, performances or any competition. But today’s pep rally was the best example so far.

There is a marked improvement in school spirit on campus this year and the pep rally allowed that newfound spirit to shine through. The majority of all the students in every section were on their feet and cheering the whole time.

The spirit surged through the gym when the band section leaders and the drum major Aaron Rachui took centerstage. In the past the band always stayed in its designated area at one side of the gym floor playing while cheerleaders and dance teams performed and leaders from every sport walked out to speak.

During this pep rally the band made their first appearance directly addressing the student body. They stood in the middle of the floor and taught the school a tradition that until now has remained strictly within the band since the school opened in 2007. By standing up and teaching the rest of the school the “Wiggalo,” the band united the school in one glorious moment of chanting and dancing.

At the game tonight I really hope that the student section will follow the band’s lead and dance along.
