Football Q&A with quarterback Justin Pelt

Justin Pelt, senior quarterback

How do you think last season went?
Last season was bittersweet as we got our first two vasity wins, but still was a disappointment because we weren’t able to get a district win or make playoffs.

How do you want the team to improve from last season?
I want to see us go out and win the games we had the chance to win last year and be able to get some district wins and make playoffs.

How do you think this season will go?
I feel like we’ve put more dedication than ever for the upcoming seasons and with our experience as three-year varsity players we expect to accomplish great things this year.

Which game are you most excited for?
I’m always excited for the home opener and Vandegrift, but I’m really looking forward to the Leander game to see how we stack up with one of the best teams in our district.

Who is your biggest rival?
Vandegrift.

How has the team been preparing for this season?
We’ve been working very hard at off season work outs, as well as meeting up at the turf to put in some extra work leading up to two-a-days.

What’s the biggest change this year from previous pre-season training?
A lot more guys have stayed after workouts to put in that little extra work to achieve our goals for this season.

What’s your favorite part about playing your sport?
Going out there and putting a performance on for everyone watching. I’ve always loved putting on a show as well as being with my teammates.

Do you have any rituals before you play?
I always throw with my teammate Dakota Unger during free time before the game. It’s just always been something we’ve done and he really helps warm me up.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened while at a game?
One of our guys falling out of the tunnel right before the game. Somehow that always happens…

Is there anything else you want to add?
We all appreciate the support we’ve gotten from our students and fans and we’re really looking forward to taking a big step for the Rouse program this year and make students proud to be Raiders.
