Magazines set us up for disappointment. It’s like they are taking the guys and girls out of our dreams and putting them on that shiny paper that feels so good under your fingers. Magazines make our dreams come true just to take them and crush them right in front of us. They put the prettiest and most appealing people on the cover so you will pick up their magazine, and for most you won’t be able to put it back down.
Magazines make us believe that everyone can have a Hollywood fantasy, that the girl in the little town can have a Channing Tatum look alike. The guy living in the suburb can have a six foot, size two, blonde haired girl on his arm. Really this is just setting us up to be crushed; I have held that shiny paper in my hands and flipped those pages and I know what it is like to know you will never have something as yummy as the people on those pages.
Magazines should really understand what we are going through and start using more realistic models, or not models at all, just people walking down the street and offer them to do a photo shoot. It will really help the generations to come if they know that not everyone is picture perfect, and you shouldn’t have to be to find a healthy relationship.
