1) Winning First Football Game and Homecoming Game
After last year’s “zero win” football season, many people went into the season with low hopes, but that all changed with the season opener. At the Liberty Hill game, we got our first win as a varsity team and brought the spirit of our school back. This was continued by the team winning the first-ever Homecoming game.
2) Bomb threat
In the last four years we have had a lot of firsts as a school, but we didn’t expect a bomb threat to be one of them. It showed that our school is still vulnerable to the outside world and all the things that are shown on the news. It was good that it turned out to only be a fluke, but it let the students take a breather and relax in the sun on the practice field for awhile.
3) Seniors
For the first time since the school’s doors opened, we finally have seniors to walk back through. These seniors have built the traditions of the school and set the foundation for future grades coming in. They went through all normal traditions like senior portraits with instilled a few new ones, like the Mr. RHS pageant.
4) Theatre Productions
From the big stage to the big screen, the theatre department pushed limits with the school performances this year. The plays this year went to extremes from the musical’s giant man-eating plant that was surrounded by the biggest set made for a play to the One-Act Play cast’s take on Sweeney Todd and his barbershop on Fleet Street. Also, the class performances in the spring gave everyone in the program a chance to be in the spotlight whether it was on stage for Theatre I plays or on screen for the Theatre II-IV Hollywood Night.
5) Boys Basketball goes to Playoffs
Football wasn’t the only sport to make school history this year. The varsity boys basketball team became the first team to advance to the playoffs. With a packed student section, they won the first round game and played amazingly at the second one.
6) Sand Sculpture
The statue that was made on the front lawn as a donation for the senior class, showed our spirit with a 14-foot Raider. Even when the statue got vandalized, it was able to bounce back just like the school has learned to do through the years. The Raider, although short lived, was a symbol of the spirit and pride of the school.
7) C2
C2 started this year wanting ever student to be accepted and for everyone to feel safe on campus. They worked together to bring us Kindness Week, smiley shirts on Wednesday and the No Place for Hate campaign. These are the first steps to get everyone in the school to become one whole campus that wants to make it the best one in the district.
8) Prom
A Night in Vegas will be one to never forget. Sure last year we had a prom, but this will be the first time there will be seniors and juniors there, making it officially the first one. With dancing, music performed by Tippus and casino games, this prom has everything to make it a memorable night.
9) Swim Team going to State
The swim team had their strongest season ever, sending 14 swimmers to regionals and four girls to the state meet. At state, sisters Amanda and Mackenzie Alspaugh both placed in their individual events.
10) Homecoming King and Queen
With the new year came new traditions, one of which was having our first Homecoming court, with Ed Butts and Victoria Leonardo named king and queen. It seemed fitting the first royal couple came from veterans of the field – a runningback and a Royals officer.
11) Mr. RHS
Six seniors fought for to be the first-ever Mr. RHS with their talents and answers. From singing to all the “Pretty Girls” to dancing through the eras, the boys were nothing short of entertaining.
12) Pep Rallies
When the freshmen arrived on the first day of school this year, no one could have guessed all the spirit they would bring. With the entire school in the stands cheering for everything from sports and academic achievements to the friendly spirit competitions, we really came together as a school.
